These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. -Hebrews 11:39-40
“Don’t go out and do something great.”
I understand this devotional but I am also struggling a bit with this devotional. Primarily, I don’t necessarily understand why you cannot want to strive to do both. Be obedient but still make a great impact on the world in God’s name… Like Noah, Abraham, Moses, etc. These men all did obey God AND they did amazing great things. Obviously, because we still hear their stories today, this many years later.
I recently obeyed the Lord. At least, in my heart, I truly felt like I paused and heard him clearly. Obeyed. But was it wrong of me to want the video I made to go viral? Simply because the message is loud and clear, “Together, We Are Children of God“. So a part of me wonders, (why) is that considered greedy because I wanted to do something great in Jesus’ name?
This is the first time that I struggle with Ruth’s devotional in the Better Mom Devotional book. I guess I just don’t understand why we can’t be fully obedient while wanting that obedience to be great in His name?
I guess maybe because it’s hard in our worldly body to not strive for the world’s approval of this great thing we did while obeying God. Therefore, taking the spotlight off of God and your obedience to Him, and being too focused on pleasing the world and losing sight of God’s message?
That’s probably it. I get it. Stinks we humans can’t be stronger…
Anywho, to whoever is listening. I hope you enjoy the video/message.
