"Prone to Wander, Lord, I feel It, Prone to Leave the God I Love"

"Oh to grace, how great a debtor, daily I'm constrained to be Let thy goodness like a fetter, bind my wand'ring heart to Thee Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above."

These lyrics hit me to the very core of my soul. There is something about these words that makes me replay this song every time it comes across my Spotify Christian FAVS playlist. I feel them to the depth of my heart and soul. Probably because as a 'newbie' walking with God, I know all too well how easy it is to wander from the goodness of God. To be distracted and easily influenced by outside noise.

My heart has been wandering for so long. I do take slight offense to the popular t-shirts sold that state, "prone to wander". I use to think they were a highlight of my "free-spirit". However, now I know Scripture and the context of that phrase; and it breaks my heart to read those words so loosely phrased. My soul weeps for the 30 years I had no understanding of the true love of Christ. The emotional use of calling my Father "Abba" in prayer and genuinely knowing He Is and always was, yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

I'm grateful for this song by Chris Tomlin, "Come Thou Fount ( I Will Sing)," because it puts the phrase "prone to wander" out there for what it truly is: "prone to leaving the God I love." So this song always helps me remember to pause and pray to God to "take my heart and seal it for thy courts above".

My Prayer

I never want to stray from God ever again. I want my heart to be guided, lead, and sealed with His eternal Words, Truth and Love. I crave His daily influence in every step of my path. I want Him in every little detail of my day: guiding me, leading me, speaking to me, and loving me through His way for His plans for my life. The Words of Isaiah 55: 6-9 echo my love in my heart for my Abba:

"Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." -Isaiah 55:6-9

I pray I never forget His Promises, Truth, and Love. I pray I never abandon Him ever again. I love our God, and He Loves You and Me too. Never doubt that and never forget that fact. Ask God to take your heart and seal it for the courts above. You will not be disappointed in surrendering your heart to Him.

"How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word." -Psalm 119: 9-16
