In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2
Tyson started kindergarten last week, and the amount of anxiety I have had for him lately is kind of shocking even for me. I have had every amount of worry cross my mind for him:
What is he learning on the school bus?
Does he sit alone on the school bus?
Is everyone being nice to him?
What if someone touches him inappropriately at school or on the bus?
What if he wasn’t actually ready for kindergarten?
Should I had held him back 3 years ago so he would had made his best friends with those classmates?
Am I doing enough at home to help him understand his assignments at school?
How am I going to prepare him and protect him from these life terrors when I am away from him every day from 7:15am to 3:45pm Monday-Friday?
This is where I have to remember this devotional, I have an Almighty God!
At first, I wasn’t really sure this devotional applied to me back when I originally read it before this summer (yeah it has been a minute). But, ugh, I can’t lie, I kind of wish I still felt that kind of confidence. Though, it is nice to be humbled a bit. However, I need to trust more. I read on Toby Mac’s Facebook page a meme he shared saying “Worrying is worshiping the problem (and not our God)” and I love that amazing point he made. Because it is so true. And that statement just kind of smacks you in the face with reality.
Therefore, I am going to do my best to trust in the Lord to protect my baby boy from any possible evil and pray for the grace for my worry as well (I mean, I am human here). While also praying for the wisdom to know how to keep him strong in his faith with the Lord, strong in his knowledge of knowing right from wrong, and strong in his confidence in all walks of life (school, faith, being a good human being).
Father I praise You for Your strength and might. Nothing takes You by surprise. The world is not out of control. You are a good Father, but also a powerful King over all of creation. Help me to trust You, relying on Your strength and not my own. In Jesus’ name I pray, thank you and love you unconditionally, amen.
